Listening Tuner
This extremely simple instrument consists of tubes of different lengths that are applied to the ear to listen to ambient noise. These tubes are tuned resonators that react to sounds coming from the outside. This minimal device makes it possible to impose harmonic rules on random sounds.
It has the particularity of reversing the way instrument are made : what was only the space of propagation and resonance on sound, becomes the basis of the arrangement of sounds, the exiting and vibrating parts remaining passive and modulating themselves by the hazards of the environment. It is related to R. Murray Schafer's questions of sound ecology and listening to the environment.
