Feedback Tamer
In the field of classical organological studies, the musical instrument has long been considered as a chain made up of three strong links; the exciter, the vibrator and the resonator.
The Exciter is the first impulse which can be a gesture, will set in motion a physical body : The vibrator whose sound will propagate in a space : The resonator (for the acoustic guitar for example, gesture of the arm=> strings=> resonance box).
The feedback tamer is the result of research aimed at reflecting on this chain.
This instrument makes it possible to create tuned feedback by channelling this phenomenon often seen as a parasite thing.
It is played by moving awood bell containing a microphone over harmonic tubes in order to capture their resonance which will be amplified and sent back to them. The amplification can be modulated by means of the expression key, which will have the effect of changing the sound texture and the speed at which it appears.
The exciter, vibrator and resonator here are strictly interdependent: the sound is self-generated and loops back while being amplified. The cause of the sound is then no longer due to a gestural excitatory phenomenon, but a state of resonance of a tube.
One of the fundamental characteristics of this instrument is to question the relationship to amplification. Here, it is no longer used to restore or increase the volume, it is literally the source of the sound phenomenon. Paradoxically, this instrument cannot be re-amplified because otherwise it would destroy the fragile link that allows the taming of feedback.
